Your Key To Casablanca – The Heart of Morocco

Casablanca is the greatest love of my life; I can’t imagine myself living anywhere else. Though not as atmospheric as other Moroccan cities, Casablanca is the largest city in the Maghreb and the best representation of the modern nation. The awesome thing about this city is that everything is here; you can enjoy our phenomenal restaurants, different flavors, Historical and modern buildings and discover typical Moroccan dishes

This city has much to offer to you and I would like to share some of my personal favorite sites with you:

  • Mosque Hassan II: Built by King Hassan II to commemorate his 60th Designed by the French architect Michel Pinseau the mosque rises above the ocean on a rocky outcrop reclaimed from the sea. Above all the vast size and elaborate decoration of the prayer hall is most striking. Large enough to house Paris Notre Dame or Rome’s Peter ST Peter’s, it is blanketed in astonishing woodcarving, Zellij and stucco moulding.
  • Habbous Neighborhood: The Habbous quarter is bordered by the boulevard Victor Hugo and included highlight like the Royal Palace of Casablanca and Mahkama of the Pasha (The courthouse of Pasha) which dates back to the 1960s. Other noteworthy included the Mohammed V Mosque and Moulay Youssef Mosque.
  • Museum of Moroccan Judaism: El Mellah Museum is a Jewish Museum in Casablanca, Morocco. The only one museum devoted to Judaism in the Arab world, that housed up to 160 Jewish youth, was renovated in 2013 by our King Mohamed VI.
  • Tagines: is the type of dish in Morocco, are Slow-Cooked at low temperatures. Moroccan tagines often combine lamb, fish or chicken with different ingredients: Olives, apricots, prunes, and dates with fresh or preserved lemons. Served with fresh bread. The best address in Casablanca to try the Tagines is: Baseman Restaurant (Val d’Anfa Hotel), in Ain Diab (Corniche).
  • Scrub up in a Moroccan hamam: I recommend Hamam Ziani Local bath & SPA located in Benjdia Area. One of the fabulous local Moroccan baths in Casablanca. You will spend 350MAD = 37USD for Hamam + Massage take one hour and half.

My name is Abdessamad Anouar, I was born in Casablanca. During my bachelor’s studies in Hotel Management and Business Administration, I started my career at the front desk part-time for Hyatt Regency Casablanca Hotel, one of the luxury hotel in Morocco. From there I became a Concierge for the same hotel. Once I reached the point in my career when it became possible to apply for membership in Les Clefs d'Or (the international concierge organization) I did. I have had the great honor to receive my Golden Keys since 2016. The best part of my job is that it is never the same. Every day I have different people with different requests. I love a good challenge. I personally love to talk to and meet new people and I get to do that for a living. Since 2016, I am the deputy secretary of Casablanca & North Morocco for Les Clefs d’Or Morocco. And today, I am honored and delighted to be a part of the communication committee of UICH.
