Kia Ora and greetings from the New Zealand chapter of Les Clefs d’Or.
New Zealand, also known as Aotearoa, is translated from Maori and means Land of the Long White Cloud. We are one of the youngest countries in the world with the earliest human settlement recorded when the Maori travelled across the South Pacific and landed around 1250AD. The country consists of the North and South Island, and surrounded by around 600 smaller islands with a population of just under 5, 000,000 people.
Located on an area known as the Pacific ring of Fire, the geothermal activity has helped shape the landscape over time to give us the beautiful country we are lucky to live in today. New Zealand is on the bucket list as a place to visit for many travellers, Whether you are looking to relax & unwind whilst taking in the beautiful scenery, or seek adventure (jumping off or into things is like second nature to us), the country will suits the desires of every kind of traveller.
New Zealand is a great touring country, whether you prefer to self-drive or take a coach tour – from the vast plains and stunning sandy beaches of the North Island to rugged coastlines to the Southern Alps Mountain range. If adventure and adrenalin isn’t your calling, the country is home to world class restaurants and eateries serving what’s the best of the region. You’ll never be short of a tasty drop with world renowned wine regions across the country to keep you company.
The New Zealand chapter of Les Clefs d’Or was founded by Mr Derek Fenn in 1994 after being linked with our close friends in Australia for many years. As a small nation we have a small but dedicated membership who are not afraid to take on the big challenges, which came to fruition in 2013 when we proudly hosted the UICH 60th World Congress in Queenstown, As well as continuing to use our network of Concierges to make sure our guests are looked after over the length and breadth of the country, One of the goals and desires is to ensure, training and development opportunities are provided to front line staff and “up and coming” Concierges, on a variety of relevant topics.
Our members of Les Clefs d’Or New Zealand are here and ready to assist you on your journey around New Zealand. We look forward to welcoming you to our little piece of paradise, it really is “As good as it gets”
Yours in Friendship
